Parent Tip Of The Day

Parent Tip Of The Day

Breastmilk is often referred to as Liquid Gold but if not taken care of and stored properly it can quickly turn into a Fools Gold. Here are a few tips to help you care for your treasured Liquid Gold.

🍼 Breast milk can safely be stored in the refrigerator for 3-5 days

🍼 According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), it is best to store breast milk in the back of the refrigerator or freezer to keep it fresh longer.

🍼 Expressed breastmilk can be safely stored in the refrigerator's freezer for 3-6 months.

🍼 Expressed breast milk can be safely stored in a deep freezer for 6-12 months.

🍼 Wash your hands before handling breast pump equipment to help eliminate unwanted bacteria and early spoiling of expressed milk.  The more bacteria, the quicker the milk will spoil.

🍼 When breast milk is spoiled it will smell sour just like regular cow's milk

🍼 Thaw and/or heat milk in warm water. Water that is too hot kills some of the nutrients that your baby needs.

🍼 NEVER NEVER NEVER heat breast milk in the microwave because it kills the nutritional value of the milk.
